The name Toto comes from the word in toto, a Latin phrase that means “all-encompassing”. It is also a play on the dog from the Wizard of Oz. The band first gained prominence in 1991, when they performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival. They also toured Europe in 2000, and released a live album, Live at Montreux. Toto has since had a string of successful albums and tours, with most of their songs having become hits.

In early 1981, Toto released their third album, Turn Back. This release featured heavier guitar and fewer keyboards. It failed to chart in the United States and Norway, and was not even certified gold in those countries.
