Basics of Fashion

The term “fashion” refers to the general disposition of individuals towards style. Fashion is generally considered to be a time-honored cultural indicator that a certain society’s values tend to change through time. Although fashion is usually considered as a way of dressing up, there are two aspects to it – one is to identify the clothes you wear to make a fashion statement and the other is to determine its practical utility. Fashion can also refer to the desire of the people for to dress in a manner pleasing to the eye.

In the past, fashion has always been an inevitable element of everyday life. Fashionable fashions are the object of desire for most people and are subject to continuous improvement. Fashionable fashions in clothing and accessories were first highlighted in the nineteenth century and have remained prominent ever since. Fashion is a hot, aesthetic topic in a given time and location and in a given context, particularly in clothing, shoes, accessories, hairstyles, makeup, and physique, especially among the young people.

During the nineteenth century, fashions were divided primarily into two categories, those of the fashionable gentleman and those of the fashionable woman. The fashionable gentleman wore clothing that was characterized by clean cut, simple lines, and a simple yet conservative look. The clothing of the fashionable woman, on the other hand, emphasized decorative details, dramatic color schemes, and delicate detailing. The nineteenth century fashion world also witnessed the rise of what is known as haute couture. Haute couture was a French term referring to fashionable or fancy clothing of the time.

The nineteenth century saw major changes in the fashion world with increased social progress and industrialization leading to the mechanization of manufacturing. This modernization of the clothing industry allowed mass production of clothing items at relatively lower costs and made mass fashion more accessible to the masses. The nineteenth century fashion world also gave way to urban fashion, which were characterized by a hip and happening styles, extravagant embellishments, and an edgier appearance. The nineteenth century fashion world also gave way to new and emerging styles such as English country decor and the Ivybotanist style, which both gave way to more modern, androgynous styles. Also during this time, dresses that are appropriate for the business became more popular and this gave way to professionalism and social status.

In the twentieth century, the fashion world once again experienced changes, most notably with the advent of designer clothing for men, women, and children. The designs of these new clothes gave way to greater individualism, creativity, and individuality. With the increase of designer clothes for women, and especially for teenagers, the haute fashion design gave way to the peer pressure to conform and follow the crowd. Many adults were able to take advantage of this trend and dress like celebrities.

Today, fashion has become more than just revealing clothes for adults and teens. In fact, a lot of people use fashion as a way to express themselves, by choosing specific clothing based on trends or personal style. People no longer hesitate to spend money and time to enhance their bodies through clothing. They use fashion as a way to make a statement about their personalities and to set trends for others to follow. One can surely say that fashion is not only for the rich and famous anymore.
